Skycaddie SG2 – Did You Know All These Facts About This Golf RangeFinder?

Most golfers will purchase a GPS golf range finder like the Skycaddie SG2 with the obvious aim of shaving a few strokes off their golf game.  This is possible because the likes of SG2 provides for more accurate measurement of distances on the golf course.  You can then just choose the club to use and the swing to apply.

Product Description

In accordance with the Skycaddie technology, the Skycaddie SG2 has the Intelligreen software that rotates the image of the green according to your angle of approach.  As such, you are able to gauge distances as well as take into account the hazards along the way.  The accuracy level is less than 2.5 yards, which is definitely better than using your eyes to gauge distances especially on cloudy days.  You will find that the SG2 is no bigger than your average flip cell phone with a belt clip for easy handling and carrying.

Benefits during Actual Use

If your golf course is not yet available as a map with the SG2, you can enter the data into the device by yourself.  This is a relatively simple process – stop at the center, front and back of each green and then press the record button to confirm your location.  All 18 holes will then be recorded by the Skycaddie SG2, providing for a virtual map of your favorite golf course.

If your golf course is already available, you just turn on the device and choose the course.  You will then be provided with more precise measurements of the distance to the target.  It’s simple since a single button need only be pressed to be provided with this information.  Keep in mind, however, that you should subscribe to an annual service that will provide the map of whatever golf course happens to be in the system.

You still have to adjust the yardage to account for pin location, wind direction and elevation.  Still, the SG2 eliminates the time necessary to calculate yardages and then make major mistakes because of miscalculations.  You can then choose your club and angle of attack with a more scientific approach to the game.

Although you will not be playing golf for 10 hours – that’s beyond human endurance, to say the least – the Skycaddie SG2 can last for that same number of hours in rugged conditions.  The rechargeable lithium-ion battery must be charged for 3-4 hours before full charge is achieved.

Cons that Just Makes it a Waste of Time and Money

Just like all products, the SG2 has its major flaws, too.  First, it is only compatible with the 32-bit Windows Vista in addition to the fact that it only runs on Internet Explorer or the SG2 browser application.  This is such a hassle considering that many other rangefinders can run on almost any OS and browser.  You will end up with a useless piece of device if your OS is the 64-bit Windows or the Mac and if your default browser is Mozilla.

Second, customer support service is definitely not Skycaddie’s strongest marketing come-on.  The website is often down for so-called upgrades and the customer service representatives are unprofessional.

Then again, if you can put up with these inconveniences and just choose to look at the bright side of its benefits, the Skycaddie SG2 is as good as it gets in golf rangefinders.
